Snack Information
St. Louis Preschool Snack and Lunch Policy
General Information:
Children who attend St. Louis Preschool will have a morning snack and an afternoon snack. Students are asked to bring in a healthy snack labeled AM/PM. This snack is offered for several reasons. First, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children in this age group be served a snack for nutritional reasons. Second, sharing a snack together helps to teach children sharing, community building, healthy eating habits, and good conversational skills. During snack time, everyone will sit down together and enjoy their individual snack.
What to Bring for Snack:
Please involve your child in the process of selecting the snack that he or she brings. It should include a drink – either 100% juice, milk, or water. Please! The snack itself should be a healthy and nutritious one. Please see the recommended list of snacks for some suggestions. Please try to avoid foods that are overly sweet – ingredients to watch out for are high fructose corn syrup and corn syrup, as well as partially hydrogenated anything and monosodium glutamate/autolyzed yeast extract. Teachers cannot heat up snacks. If you bring in something that requires eating utensils, please provide these (i.e., spoons or forks).
We recognize that some children have food allergies, and we will make you aware of any that might exist on the classroom website. If your child has an abundance of food allergies that may severely restrict the snack choices for the entire classroom, we may have to ask you to send in an acceptable snack for your child to eat.

Lunch
Any child who is enrolled for a full day of school should bring his or her own lunch each day or order a lunch through the school's hot lunch program. Please be sure to include a drink with your child’s lunch. We will be eating lunch at about 11:45 each day. After lunch, the children will enjoy a story time on tape/quiet period. Children who need to nap will have the opportunity to do this.
