My Internship with Supervisor John Gioia of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors

I am gaining significant hands-on experience in project management, community engagement, and policy analysis. I am eager to develop proven abilities to apply academic theories to real-world challenges, particularly in urban development, public health, and environmental sustainability. Additionally, I am looking to gain more skills in collaborating with local governments, non-profit organizations, and community stakeholders to design and implement effective solutions. I am eager to enhance my strong communication skills to address complex urban issues. I am very passionate about creating inclusive, sustainable cities through innovative policy initiatives and actionable planning.

• Researched and evaluated youth engagement models from other jurisdictions to inform policy recommendations for establishing a countywide Youth Commission in Contra Costa County, aimed at formalizing youth participation in governance, improving representation, and ensuring equitable, community-informed decision-making..

• Developed policy recommendations to strengthen Contra Costa County’s TRUTH Act framework by expanding data reporting, increasing Sheriff’s Office accountability, enhancing community response mechanisms, and exploring sanctuary-style policies to limit ICE cooperation and protect vulnerable immigrant communities.
