Signing Out and In with TYRO
TYRO’s student sign-in / sign-out process is essentially an attendance workflow that records when a student is physically entering or leaving school during the day and updates their attendance record accordingly. The exact screens and permissions vary by school because TYRO is configurable, but the typical process in Irish schools works like this: (tyro.school)
A parent or guardian usually submits a request in advance through the TYRO app:
Open the student profile
Go to Absence Request
Create a request
Enter the reason and time/date
Submit it to the school office for review (support.tyro.school)
Example:
Student has a dentist appointment at 11:30 → parent submits early departure request in TYRO.
School administration receives the request and can:
approve or review it
add notes
mark attendance appropriately
prepare for an early sign-out if required
TYRO supports attendance management and parent communication through the same system. (tyro.school)
When the student physically leaves:
they normally report to reception/office
office staff record the departure in TYRO
the system timestamps the event
attendance status changes (for example: present until a certain time, then left early)
Schools may require:
office staff action only, or
student self-service on a kiosk/device (depending on school setup)
This creates an audit trail of:
who left
what time
authorisation status
reason (if recorded)
If the student returns:
they check back through reception
office records sign-in
TYRO updates attendance for remaining classes/day
Example:
Leaves 10:45 → orthodontist
Returns 12:20 → office signs student back in
Afternoon classes remain marked attended.
Teachers generally see attendance updates in their class lists and can take attendance based on current student status through TYRO’s attendance tools. (Google Play)
It helps with:
safeguarding (knowing who is on site)
legal attendance records
fire / evacuation lists
parent communication
reducing manual office paperwork
If your school uses TYRO specifically (for example, Gairmscoil Chú Uladh), there may also be local rules layered on top of the software (permission slips, student cards, year-group restrictions, etc.).
