I believe meaningful learning begins with meaningful relationships. My first priority is creating a classroom where every student feels safe, valued, and respected. When students gain a sense of belonging, they are more willing to take risks, ask questions, and view mistakes as opportunities to learn. It is also my belief that students learn best by actively engaging in the learning process. Through opportunities for critical thinking, collaboration, and reflection, students build both a greater depth of understanding, as well as self-confidence. By meeting students where they are while maintaining high expectations, I strive to help every learner grow academically and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Fifth grade is an exciting year filled with opportunities for students to grow as learners and as members of our classroom community. Throughout the year, students will build independence, strengthen their organizational skills, and prepare for the increased responsibilities of middle school. As they take on new challenges, they will develop a greater sense of ownership in their learning while growing alongside their classmates. There is so much to explore, including developing flexible number sense and efficient problem-solving strategies with fractions and decimals; reading and responding to literature and informational text using evidence; writing across multiple genres; studying United States history; and engaging in hands-on science investigations.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and close friends, practicing yoga, and taking walks with my two rescue pups. As a family, we enjoy solving New York Times puzzles, watching rmovies, and cheering on the Padres!
