Del Mar Hills Academy
Educational Background and Professional Experience:
I attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and received my degree in Business Administration and Accounting. After working for only 1 year as a CPA for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC, I knew that I was in the wrong profession. I quickly enrolled at SDSU to get my teaching credential, where I also completed my Masters in Elementary Education and Curriculum. My first job was in San Diego Unified, where I taught a 1/2 combo class. Then, I spent the next 21 years in Del Mar at Sage Canyon (1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades). I am SO excited to be here at Del Mar HIlls teaching 4th grade this year.

I became a teacher for one important reason: I love school! Making learning fun and exciting, as well as memorable, is very important to me. I want all my students to look forward to coming to our classroom every day. For 180 days, your child becomes my child too! We share the process of shaping them into a eager learner and a good human being.
In 4th grade, you can expect your child to start taking on a lot of ownership in their learning, as well as their behavior. As far as curriculum goes, you can expect to see the following:
READING: Summarizing main ideas, using textutal evidence
WRITING: Crafting coherent opinion pieces, informational essays, and narratives with clear structure and supporting details
MATH:
Operations & Algebraic Thinking: Mutli-digit arithmetic, factors, multiples, and generating patterns
Number & Operations in Base Ten: Mastery with place value, rounding multi-digit numbers, operations with whole numbers up to millions
Fractions: Understanding equivalence, comparing fractions, working with decimal fractions to hundredths, and operations involving tenths and hundredths
Geometry & Measurement: Classifying 2-dimensional shapes, finding lines of symmetry, calculating area and perimeter, and measuring angles
SOCIAL STUDIES: California history, especially the Spanish Missions, geography, indigenous cultures, and pre-statehood times
SCIENCE: Fossils, erosion, basic electricity, forces and motion, light, heat, geology, and earth systems
I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I love being near the ocean and I am so excited to be at Del Mar Hills this year! When I am not teaching, you will probably find me at Dog Beach with my French Bulldog, Kingston. I also enjoy spending time on my Peloton, swimming with the Masters Swim Team in Carlsbad, or enjoying time with my nephews in Temecula. During my breaks from school, I love traveling to my 2 favorite places: Pismo Beach and Cabo San Lucas!
