Del Mar Hills Academy
Here we are as a family learning how to make wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) in Kyoto.
¡Hola, surfistas!
My name is Artemisa Perucho-Green and I'm súper emocionada to be your 5th grade SLIP teacher this year at Del Mar Hills Academy!
Teaching Experience:
I spent my entire teaching career at Valley Elementary in Poway, where I taught in the Spanish Dual Immersion Program. This year marks my 20th year in the classroom and I couldn't be more excited to start this new chapter with all of you!
Educational Background:
I moved to Carmel Valley from Long Island when I was 7 years old and later graduated from Torrey Pines High School. I stayed close to home for college where I finished both my undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of California, San Diego.

I believe that...
Student-centered learning fosters curiosity, engagement, and real-world problem-solving.
Every child is a whole and unique individual, whose talents and passions deserve to be nurtured in school.
Every child comes to school wanting to learn and make connections with others.
Literacy is a fundamental civil right, and biliteracy is a gift in any child's educational journey.
Authentic, diverse literature that reflects the realities of people across the world is essential for broadening perspectives and deepening understanding.
Learning should be collaborative — especially in an immersion setting — where lively, respectful discussions enrich the classroom experience across all subjects.
Learning should go beyond the superficial, ensuring that students develop their critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.
5th grade is going to look like...
The beliefs outlined above — in action! Together, we'll embark upon a bilingual adventure of the best kind and support each other as we learn and grow. I'm so excited to learn ALL about what makes each of you unique and special!
Academics:
Language Arts: We'll read a variety of incredible books together that will take our learning far beyond the learning studio walls, while also building our capacity as writers across the genres.
Math: The mathematical concepts we cover this year — such as decimals, fractions, and graphing — will lay the foundation for middle school math.
History: American history, beginning with pre-Columbian societies through the founding of our nation, will be the focus this year.
Science: Let's bring life science, Earth & space, and physical science to life!
My family is my anchor! My husband's name is Fernando, and we have an incoming 8th grader at Carmel Valley Middle School named Katt. Some of our favorite ways to spend time together include traveling, snorkeling, camping, rock climbing, and playing board games. We also have a cat and a cockatiel who get along remarkably well!
I love playing the piano and reading all kinds of books—fiction and nonfiction alike. My all-time favorite book is The Lord of the Rings. A couple of hobbies I picked up during the pandemic are surfing and learning Japanese!
