GENERAL MECHANICS
As part of innovation, the 14th Sci–MATh Quiz Bee Interschool Challenge will once again test the student’s academic prowess through a series of questions varying in difficulty through an online platform.
This event is open to all grades 9-10 Junior High School students from private and public schools. Participating schools must choose one (1) bona fide student to represent them in the competition.
Only the first 30 participants with complete requirements upon registration process will be accommodated in the contest. Official participating schools will receive a notice via email.
The questions will be based on Junior High School topics in the following domains:
a. Science - Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
b. Mathematics - Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Statistics
c. Arts
d. Robotics
e. Information Technology
Misspelled and late answers will not be accepted. All answers must be written legibly.
Contestants are not allowed to use any computing device and the like during the contest proper.
Each participant must have a whiteboard and a marker for solving. The final answer must be encircled or else the answer will not be considered.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION AND REQUIREMENTS:
The quiz bee will be held via zoom. The zoom link will be given to the participants before the day of the interschool competition. Only the participants are allowed to join the zoom conference.
Quiz bee representatives must enter the zoom room 15 minutes before the scheduled time and rename themselves in the Zoom meeting following this format: Name of School_Last Name, First Name
Participants are not allowed to use any form of virtual background.
There will be a technical testing phase. The following are the conditions to pass the phase:
a. Raised trial answers are clearly visible in the camera. Blurry and unreadable answers from the Board of Judges' view will indicate a “failure” to proceed in the contest proper. In the case that the blurred answer happened in the middle of the allotted time in the contest proper, the answer will not be considered for the round.
b. Trial answers cued by the quizmaster are raised on time.
c. Participants who will not be able to attend the technical testing phase will not be accommodated in the contest proper.
All questions will be read by the quizmaster twice. The questions will also be presented in zoom and shall be pinned by all participants. Participants must wait for the quizmaster’s cue before writing solutions or answers on their boards.
When time is up, the participants will be asked to raise their boards and must show their answers to their cameras. Participants can only show up and bring down their boards upon instruction of the quizmaster.
Questions and protests from participants regarding the answer to the items will be entertained. If a protest shall arise, the participants may raise their complaints to the quizmaster which will be forwarded to the Board of Judges. Questions and protests must be forwarded before the next question is read; otherwise, they will be considered invalid. The decision of the Board of Judges is always final.
Participants should ALWAYS turn on their cameras throughout the contest, capturing up to their desk area for solving and writing answers. Under no circumstances should the participants turn off or set their microphones on mute.
No one is allowed to go outside of their private rooms once the quiz bee has started.
Non-compliance to the rules would result in automatic disqualification from the quiz bee.
Since the competition is online, contestants need to set up the technical tools needed to participate in the 14th Sci-MATh Interschool Challenge from their respective homes. These are the basic technical requirements:
a. reliable internet connection during the competition
b. computer/laptop —Download Zoom on the device. Have your laptop fully charged in case of a power interruption.
c. Zoom (basic/free) account—Zoom is the official platform for the 14th Sci-MATh Interschool Challenge and the sessions will be recorded.
d. a working email address of participant
No special consideration will be given if a contestant misinterprets a problem or gets a detail in the problem wrong because the displayed problem statement or figure is distorted in their view.
We recognize that not everyone has reliable internet access at home. Some may not even have access to the Internet at all. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate a quiz-bee representative who is unable to meet the technical requirements.
