Below is a running GoogleSheet with different types of technology tools listed. Tools are organized alphabetically, description of type of tool, what content area it could be applied to and the URL to access the tool.
Conducting a needs assessment is the first step in the decision making process for inclusion of technology in education. A needs assessment identifies the current state of educational technology and what the desired state of educational technology is.
Just as educators teach their students, they also need to learn about new technology and how to include it in the classroom. Technology professional development should be carried out purposefully, “Teachers crave a constant support person, in close proximity and available to fill in the gaps that arise with the rapid changes associated with technology” (Plair, 2008).
Step 1: Perform a needs assessment
Step 2: Choose a focus
Step 3: Create leveled PD on same content
Make sure committee is open to all (voluntary & recruitment)
Ideal members:
Teachers (across grade level & content areas), administrators, support staff, I.T staff; if possible-- students, parents, community members
All members have same ideals that technology is an important and every changing aspect of education
All committee members have an equal voice, but will need to take on different roles.
Roles should be agreed upon by all
Actions are more important than roles.
All committee members main focus should be successfully integrating technology into the school building.
Members should work together to:
Create technology goals & objectives
Evaluate/assess current technology
Integrate newer technology or in a more effective way
Train other staff members
