AP Computer Science A
Course Description
This course emphasizes programming methodology with a concentration on problem solving and algorithm development and is meant to be the equivalent of a first semester college level course in computer science. It is highly recommended that the student has passed computer programming. This course is ideal for students planning to go into a technical field related to computers. The programming language Java will be used throughout this course. Note: Previous programming experience is expected. Students are required to take the AP exam in May. Please refer to page 13 in the course catalogue to read about AP exams. AP Computer Science A qualifies as a mathematics based, quantitative course.

Last year 94% of students passed the AP Exam. The average score for the 2020 test for HHS was a 4.3. The national average was a 3.3.
