BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!!! All 3 District 145 Elementary Schools will be participating in our One District, One School Reading Event. The 3-week Unit will include EVERY Pre-K to 5th Grade student in our district! It will include plenty of opportunities to celebrate reading together. Each night, we will have some chapters to read. You can find video links to listen to audiobook read-alouds on this page, as well as discussion questions to share the book's events as a family. We will have lots of activities at school to expand on the reading and bring the book to life!
Peter Brown is an acclaimed American author and illustrator known for his imaginative and visually engaging children's books. Raised in Hopewell, New Jersey, he developed a passion for storytelling through drawing at a young age. He pursued his interest in art by studying illustration at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he took courses focused on children's book illustration. After graduating, Brown moved to New York City to be closer to the publishing industry and initially worked on animated television shows before launching his career in children's literature.
Brown's debut picture book, Flight of the Dodo, was published in 2005. He has since authored and illustrated several bestselling books, including The Curious Garden, Children Make Terrible Pets, Mr. Tiger Goes Wild, and The Wild Robot series. His work has garnered numerous accolades, such as a Caldecott Honor for Creepy Carrots!, two E.B. White Read Aloud Awards, a New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book award, and a Children's Choice Award for Illustrator of the Year.
In addition to his books, Brown's The Wild Robot series has been adapted into a successful animated film by DreamWorks Animation, released in September 2024. He continues to create new stories and illustrations, with upcoming projects including The Wild Robot on the Island, a picture book adaptation set to be published in June 2025.
Peter Brown currently resides in Maine with his wife, Susan, and their dog, Pam.
