How we express ourselves

An inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values; the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of the aesthetic.

Central Idea

People can express themselves through dance.

  • The are a variety of different ways to dance (form)
  • People can connect to each other through dance in different ways(connection)
  • Dance can help us to understand different ideas (perspective)

Grade 3-4

Who we are

An inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.


Central Idea

The process of learning is similar when learning physical and academic skills.

Lines of Inquiry

  • Practicing skills improves our abilities to use them.
  • Everyone starts out knowing nothing.
  • Recognizing mistakes and errors helps us to improve.

Grade 5-6

Who we are

An inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.

People go through physical and emotional changes as they develop.

Lines of Inquiry

  • The understanding that changes (physical and emotional) are inevitable (change)
  • We must consider the impact of our actions on others, whether at the immediate, personal level. (connection)
