Mrs. Broege's Kindergarten Class

Our Class News

We had an amazing week of school. We read many books by author, David Shannon. We read the story No, David! We learned about good choices and bad choices. (David made many bad choices) . We also generated a list of rules for our classroom. We read the story, Alice the Fairy. We predicted what Alice looked like. We also read the story, Good Boy, Fergus! This story taught us about story elements: characters, setting, problem and solution. We learned the sight word: I

During FUNdations we learned the letter t. We learned what sound it makes and we learned how to write it. We also learned the names of the lines on our paper: skyline, plane line, grass line and worm line.

During math, we practiced recognizing numbers 0-5. We practiced writing the number 1. We also got to explore with math manipulatives.

Next week during reading, we are going to read the book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We are going to learn about the letters in our names and the letters in the alphabet.

Next week during math, we are going to continue to work with numbers 0-5.

****Please remember to put your child's snack in a separate bag than his/her lunchbox.

Homework Assignments

It is very important to read for at least 20 minutes everyday. Please read with your child or have your child read to you.

Reading Log: Starting in September: Every month I will be sending home a reading log. When your child reads a book or you read a book to them, have them color in one picture. At the end of the month, have your child return their sheet for a prize. We hope this will motivate them to want to continue reading at home.

Weekly Progress Red Folders: Every Friday these folders will be going home with progress reports and on occasion, homework assignments. Please look through and sign the progress report. Have your child return it the following Monday.

Activity Boxes: We have been given an exciting opportunity to be able to provide our families with Activity Boxes. The contents of these boxes will coincide with many of the curricular activities that will we be asking your child to complete at home. About once a month we will be sending home an activity for your child to enjoy practicing. Our mission is to provide your family with the tools necessary to make the school to home connection a meaningful experience.
