Dear West Oak Intermediate Families,

What a wonderful week as we head into spring break! Our March Assembly on Tuesday was a fun and memorable celebration. Students enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, we recognized our Cooperation Students of the Month, and wrapped up with an exciting March Madness shootout. The energy and school spirit throughout the assembly were fantastic!

Yesterday's STEAM Olympics was another highlight of the week. Students had the opportunity to showcase their creativity, problem-solving, and engineering skills through a variety of hands-on challenges. They especially enjoyed working collaboratively, and it was great to see our older students stepping into leadership roles while supporting younger peers.

We also want to thank our families for your partnership during student-led parent-teacher conferences. These conferences are a meaningful way for students to take ownership of their learning and share their progress with you.

• Spring Break: We will not be in attendance on Friday, March 20th as it is a Teacher Institute Day. Additionally, all D76 schools and the District Office will be closed for Spring Break from Monday, March 23rd through Friday, March 27th. Classes will resume and offices will reopen on Monday, March 30th.

• Summer Exploration Camp Registration: We are excited to announce that Summer Exploration Camp registration is open!  Summer Exploration Camp is open to students entering grades K-8 this fall.  Summer exploration camp will run from Monday through Thursday from 8am - 11:30am at Diamond Lake School.  The dates of Summer Exploration Camp are June 3rd to July 2nd.  There is no cost, and transportation will be provided.  Please click here to register.

• Yearbook Order Forms: Yearbook order forms were passed out in classes today! The order form and yearbook money ($20) is due by April 10th if your student would like to order a yearbook. 

• Clubs Session 2: Intramurals and Girls Who Code begin the week we return from spring break! If your child signed up for a club or activity, the club sponsor should have been in contact with you to share details. Additionally, if you signed up to have your student take the activity bus home, our office staff will be sharing bus information with you via phone. Here is the after school clubs and activities schedule. 

• SEL Focus of the Month: March's SEL focus is COOPERATION! Students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership through our Character Strong curriculum during morning meeting. Please see below for the monthly family newsletters:

• Diamond Awards: New to this year, we ask families to complete this nomination Form if they would like to recognize a staff member they feel are going above and beyond with what they do in the classroom, school, or district. Please consider spreading the positivity by highlighting the great work that staff our doing in our district. 

• D76 CARES: At D76, the well-being of our students and families is our top priority. Understanding the critical role mental health plays in student success, we have launched D76 CARES - a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving access to quality mental health services across our community. D76 CARES stands for Community, Advocacy, Resilience, Engagement, and Support. Treatment services are initially provided free of charge to district families for up to 8 sessions. Spring Break Balance: Spring break is a great time to relax and recharge as a family. Keeping a light routine, like regular sleep times and a few minutes of reading each day, can help your child stay on track while still enjoying the break. Balancing rest, fun, and a little learning makes the return to school smoother and sets your child up for success.

• Ice Cream day was a blast.  Thank you to every parent that purchased ice cream, donated their time to serve ice cream, or sent in additional money.  It was so much fun to be able to include all the students in the district.  

• OOPS!  On the print flyer that was sent home regarding Ice Cream Day, the PTO email address that accepts Zelle payments was missing an "s" at the end.  The correct email address is:  d76ptopayments@gmail.com  If you attempted to send a payment for ice cream, and it is still processing or never went through, please verify the email address. If your payment was directed to an incorrect email address you should be able to cancel and resend.  Thank you for your support.
