We had our first fire drill this week and our students and staff did an amazing job!
Attendance Matters: Attendance = Achievement! Middle school is a key time for students to develop habits that will carry them into high school and beyond. When students attend every day, they are more likely to keep up with lessons, participate in activities, and build the confidence they need to succeed. Even a few absences can make it harder to stay on track. Thank you for partnering with us to make attendance a top priority!
Student Exclusion: Health Physical Requirements – Exclusion Date October 15, 2025
Illinois law requires that all students entering Preschool, Kindergarten, 6th grade, and any student new to Illinois schools have a current physical examination and up-to-date immunization records on file. All required health documentation must be submitted to the school by Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Students who do not have a completed physical exam and immunization record on file by this date are subject to school exclusion and will not be allowed to attend until the required forms are received. Please schedule any needed appointments as soon as possible and submit forms to the school office. If you have questions or need assistance accessing health services, contact our school nurse. Thank you for helping us keep all students healthy and ready to learn!
5th Grade Band: We are excited to have our 5th grade WOIS students start their Band class next week. Since this class ends at 3:25am, they will ride the middle school bus home. This should not affect any routes or drop off times, but each bus will have a few more students to drop off each day.
Stem for Girls: We are excited to share that the Lake County STEM for Girls Conference is returning for its 7th year! The conference hosts women from various STEM fields who work directly with students with hands-on, real-world activities. Each session is interactive, inspiring, and designed to help girls see themselves in future STEM careers. Please sign up using this flyer.

Standards-Based Grading: Once again this year, Standards-Based Grading will be provided in order to give students and parents a clearer, more accurate, reflection of student learning and mastery of specific skills needed for each course. This approach focuses on individual standards rather than overall grades, allowing students to understand their strengths and better identify what they need to improve and achieve. Please refer to this page on our district’s website and this Slide Deck for more information.
