A Letter from the Principal
Dear Families,
This week, we had so much fun celebrating the 100th day of school on Monday! Students enjoyed read-alouds, games, and engaging activities to mark this exciting milestone. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and joy as they participated in the celebration.
Today, we were also thrilled to welcome guest readers from West Oak Middle School’s Elle Project! These amazing student leaders visited our classrooms to read with our students and lead a fun activity. We loved having them share their love of reading with us!
At D76, we love to read, and our celebration of literacy continues throughout the month! Next week, we will be participating in D76 Loves to Read – Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) on February 14th. This is a special time when the entire school will pause and enjoy a good book together. We encourage you to join in at home by setting aside time for reading as a family!
On Friday, February 14th, which is also an early release day, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day in our classrooms. Students are welcome to bring Valentine cards to share with their classmates, but we kindly ask that no treats or candy be included. Our focus will be on kindness, friendship, and appreciation for one another.
Warmly,
Mrs. Sunny Morley
Principal, Diamond Lake School
This Week's Highlights
On Monday we celebrated the 100th day of school. We had special games, special snacks, photo opportunities around the building, and I was a guest reader in each classroom.
Middle School students from the Elle Project came to share their love of reading with our students here at DLS. It was such a great experience for all.
Need to Know
Dress for the Weather: The cold weather has arrived! Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the outdoors. If you are in need of any cold weather supplies please reach out to Samira Calderon at scalderon@dist76.org. We will go outside on all days as long as the "feels like" temperature is 15 or more.
Emergency School Closures: Our primary concern is always the safety of our students and staff. There are several scenarios in which we might need to close one or more of our school buildings or start the day late. These include severe weather conditions, power outages, issues with heating, or water problems. Below is some more additional information about what will happen when there is an emergency school closure.
Notification Process:
In the event of severe weather or an unforeseen emergency, we will send an automated phone message and email alert to all families and employees informing them of the situation. In order to receive these alerts, your phone numbers and email addresses must be up to date in our system. Contact your child’s school to make updates/changes. We will also post a message on the D76 Homepage and all social media pages. If schools are closed, all before and after school activities will be canceled. The before and after school program, Innovative Learning, will also be closed.E-Learning Day:
In the event that we have an emergency closing, we will also announce if we will be having an E-Learning Day in our communications. We have updated the E-Learning procedures click here to review our updated procedures.Technology Protocol for E-Learning Days
In the event we have an E-Learning Day, students will follow our Emergency/Inclement Weather Technology Student Protocol.
D76 Engagement & Growth
Intense Voting Continues!
This week we closed out the top 5 race for Princess Polly to become America’s Favorite Pet! The race is getting intense and we need to continue to vote and show our love for Princess Polly. This week we MUST win our group to enter the quarterfinals. There are four other dog groups that people have also been voting on. Winners from those groups enter the quarterfinals and will then be up against our girl, if, no more like when, she wins her group. In the event that she does not win her group, but comes in 2nd place, she will have an opportunity to try and get into the quarterfinals through a wild card race, but I am confident our continuous voting will get her the win!
The ballot remains open! Through your help and support, our girl made the cut for the top 5. This week we have to win our group! Votes will continue to accumulate, so please cast your vote every 24 hours. Let’s bring home the win for our group! Click HERE to vote! 💎♥️👑🐾
