Riding The  Wave in the 4th Grade

Math activities

The first quarter we studied place value which we would use all year. We also worked on representing numbers in standard and expanded form.

The second quarter we worked on adding and subtracting whole numbers up to 100,000 using place value and the standard algorithem.

The third quarter we studied multiplication and division. Understanding that multiplication is repeated addition. We also used modeling to solve

multiplication problems. During this period we also learned about prime and composite numbers.

The forth period we studied fractions. Finding equivalent fractions, common denominators, and reducing to lowest terms.Geometry was our next topic learning about points , rays ,line segments, and perpendicular lines.

We are getting ready for the EOG taking test on Wednesday and Friday. Each student has a copy of last years 4th grade EOG which they can take home and study.

The fourth grade will be ready!!!

Science activities

We will be studying safety and how important it is to follow rules and procedures during science class. Our first experiments involved static electricity and how it effects all of us. This week we will be working with magnets each one has a positive and negative pole. Opposite poles are attracted to each other, while the same poles repel each other. The strongest magnet is made of Neodymium which is an alloy made from iron and boron.

Have you ever had an MRI our students will be able to tell you why they are all about large magnets. They can produce detailed images of almost every internal structure in the human body.
