Modernising lasting powers of attorney
The Ministry of Justice and the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) are working on a project to modernise lasting powers of attorney (MLPA).
The project aims to:
increase safeguards for the donor
improve the process of making and registering an LPA for donors, attorneys and third parties
achieve sustainability for OPG whilst keeping LPAs as affordable as possible for all people in society
The Powers of Attorney Act 2023
On Thursday 14th September 2023, The Powers of Attorney Bill passed its Third Reading in the House of Lords
On Monday 18th September 2023, The Powers of Attorney Bill received Royal Assent, officially becoming an Act of Parliament
It is now known as The Powers of Attorney Act 2023
