In 2003 Catalonia saw one of the most important influxes of immigrant population. To give you an idea, that year the population of Catalonia grew by 134,557 people, of which 121,653 were the result of migration. Those were the years of economic growth, the construction boom and tourism. This was noticed throughout the territory but in a special way in certain cities such as Barcelona, which had always been a pole of attraction for people coming from all over the world.
Attentive to the needs that this new situation created, the Society of Jesus in Catalonia decided to use one of its communities, located at 3 Palau Street, in the heart of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, to set up a social entity, the Migra Studium Foundation. The migratory reality has been changing in recent years as a result of the economic crisis, the growth of inequalities, the refugee crisis, the increase of xenophobic speeches... that is why Migra Studium has also been growing and adapting to reach the reality it is today: 8 projects, a team of 15 professionals and more than 200 volunteers.
