Self-Portrait Printing

Abstract Architecture

Students drew and combined a variety of architecture building together to create an abstraction of building.  Bold use of paint and backgrounds were added to accent the structures.

Students used wooden mannikins to create realistic drawings using value, collage, paint and abstraction.

Graffiti Names 

8th grade started the year by creating their names in graffiti styles!  How amazing!!!

Graffiti Art

Students learned how to create Graffiti names on painted walls.

Color Theory Paintings

Students are using the color wheel to create paintings using their hands and symbols.  Each piece will demonstrate the use of primary, secondary, tertiary, tints and shades within the painting.

Optical Illusions Cubes

Students explored a variety of optical illusion drawings to create a 3D cube.

POP ART FOOD

Students used earth clay to create food sculptures inspired by Pop artists such as; Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Wayne Thiebald and Roy Lichtenstein.

Patterned Animals 

inspired by Matea Sinkovec

Students looked at California artist, Matea Sinkovec and her patterned animal portraits.  Each student learned how to draw using a grid and drew an animal of their choice.  Patterns, shapes, lines, colors and repetition were added to each animal to illustrate Matea's style.

Origami Mandalas

Students started the semester by making miniature origami papers to create individual Mandalas.

Magazine Collages

Linoleum Prints

Students created textured linoleum prints using warm and cool colors.

One-Eyed Creative Creatures

Students used recycled CD's to paint original eyes to be part of their paper-mache creative creature.  Each creature is painted and embellished with a variety of materials.

4 Styles of ART -  Still Life

Students created 4 different styles of art using on subject.  Students created a Realism pencil drawing, an Abstract style using color, a Collage and an Acrylic painting using one color with values.

Hero Hair-Do

Line Drawings

8th students began the semester demonstrating one of the Elements of Art: Line to create line hair for their heroes.  

All About "Me" Drawings

Students were challenged to create drawings illustrating things about themselves.  The challenge was to draw 40-50 different images.  Each drawing is unique and original.

Elements of Art Book

Art 8 students created books demonstrating the Elements of Art: line, shape, color, value, space, texture and form.  Each page used different art media and techniques.  The students created original covers to finish the book.

Day of the Dead Altars 

Students are learning about the Day of the Dead, which is a Mexican holiday celebrated in Mexico and elsewhere associated with the Catholic celebrations of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pray for and to remember friends and family members who have died. It is commonly portrayed as a day of celebration rather than mourning.  Students learned about the celebration in Spanish class and created altars in art.  Altars were created using a variety of art materials and processes to portray and honor their loved one.

Toilet Paper Food Sculptures

Students created their favorite foods or dishes using an everyday material, toilet paper.  Students learned how to manipulate and mold the wet paper to create sculptural forms that dry hard and are able to be painted.

Surrealism Collage & Prints

Students explored Surrealism, a style of art  characterized by dream-like visuals, the use of symbolism, and collage images. Several prominent artists came from this movement, including Magritte, Dali, and Ernst.  Students looked at the artist, Kenny and Jenifer Kudulis or (Kudu-lah) who bring you "critters", their original monster-like characters that are inspired by folks seen traveling through the NYC Subways.  Each student created their own linoleum print critter and created a "Surrealism" collage.
