Title I

What is Title I?

Title I is a section of the originally authorized Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), since reauthorized in 2015 as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). It provides schools with a funding source to address needs in the areas of academics. At De Soto, we are schoolwide, which means that every student, regardless of any designation or qualification, is eligible to take advantage of these resources. We use these funds to offer both pull-out and push-in reading and math services, delivered by Title I teachers and paras. Each year, we participate in an annual needs assessment and hold fall and spring meetings. Every three years, we participate in monitoring with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
