Attention all Desert Sands families!

We are happy to announce that beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, DSUSD is moving to online registration. The registration window will open in August.

If you do not currently have a ParentVUE account, please visit the front office BEFORE THE END OF THE 2018-2019 school year to receive directions and an activation code to create an account. An active ParentVUE account is necessary to participate in annual online registration.

Please note that all incoming kindergarten students and new students to the district will still need to complete a paper registration packet during your school’s registration window. These packets can be picked up at Roosevelt. The registration window for new kindergarten students opens on April 23, 2019. Contact the office for specific registration times. MR. MARTINEZ HAS A NEW NAME!!!

Our principal, Mr. Martinez, will be receiving his Doctorate Degree, in Educational Leadership, from the University of La Verne, on June 1st. A Doctorate, or Doctoral Degree, is the highest level of academic degree awarded by a university, and typically signifies that the individual is qualified to be a leader in a specific field. Mr. Martinez, soon to be Dr. Daniel Martinez, Ed.D, will be included in the 1% of the world's population, that hold this prestigious degree and have this level of education. Roosevelt is proud to have Dr. Martinez as our principal! He is a role model and an inspiration to the Roosevelt Community!!!

2019 California Green Ribbon School Honoree


The Green Ribbon School Award is to recognize schools and school districts across the state for environmental excellence and demonstrated achievement of the three Pillars of the Department of Education’s Green Ribbon School Program.

The three pillars are :

  • Pillar I: Reduce environmental impact and costs
  • Pillar II: Improve the health and wellness of the school, students, and staff
  • Pillar III: Provide effective environmental education, which teaches many disciplines, and is especially good at effectively incorporating STEM, civic skills, and green career pathways.

USDA Healthy Schools Challenge

Gold with Distinction Certification

Roosevelt's Healthy School Program has earned the

Alliance for a Healthier Generation 2018-2019 Silver Award and the United States Department of Agricultureś Healthy Schools Challenge Certification.

The Healthy School Program, helps schools and their communities, evaluate and change school climates to provide healthier foods, increase physical activity, and create school policies that will help provide students with opportunities to establish healthy habits, for healthier futures. We are committed to providing a healthy environment for our students, families, and school community. The USDA Healthy Schools Challenge (HUSSC) Certification, started in 2004, to recognizes schools that have created healthier school environments through physical activity and nutrition.

Since the start of the program 3,498 schools across the United States have received the HUSSC certification. Out of those 3, 498 schools, only 43 schools (including Roosevelt Elementary School) have earned the certification level of GOLD with DISTINCTION.
