Retooling of EPP-TLE Teachers for Grade 4 to Grade 7 on the Development of Assessment Tools Aligned with the MATATAG Curriculum
In line with the Department of Education's commitment to enhancing the quality of education and aligning instructional methods with the MATATAG Curriculum, a retooling workshop was conducted for EPP-TLE (Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan - Technology and Livelihood Education) teachers of Grades 4 to 7.
This workshop, held last March 6, 2024 under Division Memorandum No. 157, series of 2024, focused on developing assessment tools, including the creation of a Table of Specifications (TOS) and Budget of Work (BOW) that are consistent with the MATATAG curriculum framework.
Objectives of the Retooling Workshop
The primary objectives of this retooling workshop were to:
equip EPP-TLE teachers with the necessary skills to develop assessment tools that are aligned with the MATATAG Curriculum,
facilitate the creation of a Table of Specifications (TOS) that reflects the learning competencies outlined in the curriculum;
guide teachers in drafting a Budget of Work (BOW) that aligns with the curriculum standards;
strengthen the teachers' commitment to implementing the newly developed tools effectively in their respective classrooms.
Workshop Highlights
The workshop commenced with an opening program where the significance of the retooling initiative was emphasized by the Division Supervisor. The participants, consisting of Grade 4 to Grade 7 EPP-TLE teachers, were then oriented on the objectives and expected outputs of the workshop.
Development of Assessment Tools:
The core of the workshop focused on the development of assessment tools. Resource persons provided comprehensive discussions on the principles of assessment in the context of the MATATAG Curriculum. Participants were guided through the process of creating a TOS that ensured alignment between learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment methods. The teachers were then tasked with drafting their own TOS, which was critiqued and refined through collaborative sessions.
Budget of Work (BOW):
Following the TOS development, teachers were introduced to the process of drafting a Budget of Work (BOW). This session highlighted the importance of aligning the BOW with the curriculum's pacing and standards. Teachers were provided with templates and guided through the steps of creating a BOW that would serve as a roadmap for instructional delivery throughout the school year.
Pledge of Commitment:
At the conclusion of the workshop, a Pledge of Commitment was administered. Each teacher affirmed their dedication to applying the knowledge and skills gained from the workshop in their teaching practices. This symbolic gesture underscored the teachers' role in ensuring the successful implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum in their respective schools.
Conclusion
The retooling workshop was a significant step toward ensuring that EPP-TLE teachers are well-equipped to develop and implement assessment tools that are in line with the MATATAG Curriculum. The collaborative nature of the workshop fostered a deeper understanding of curriculum alignment and its importance in achieving educational goals. With the TOS and BOW now in place, teachers are better prepared to deliver instruction that meets the curriculum standards and addresses the diverse needs of their students.
The workshop concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among the participants, who are now poised to contribute to the continuous improvement of the educational system through the effective use of the tools developed during this retooling initiative.
