Data Analysis Plan
The data analysis process for this qualitative study will be structured around thematic narrative analysis, focusing on interpreting the collected narratives to extract meaning and insight about the artist’s journey. The following steps outline the process:
1. Transcription & Preliminary Coding. Interviews and observations will be transcribed verbatim to preserve the authenticity of the artist's words. During this phase, the researcher will identify initial codes related to key themes such as motivations, struggles, artistic influences, and success stories (Charmaz, 2021). These initial codes will serve as the foundation for organizing and categorizing the data during further analysis.
2. Identifying Emerging Themes. The researcher will review the coded data to identify recurring themes and patterns across the artist’s narratives. Themes such as resilience, perseverance, creative growth, and personal identity will be examined to understand how these factors have influenced the artist’s artistic journey. This process involves grouping related codes into broader thematic categories that provide insight into the artist’s motivations and creative process (Braun & Clarke, 2006).
3. Narrative Synthesis and Interpretation. Once the themes are identified, the researcher will synthesize the artist’s narrative into a cohesive story that highlights key moments in her journey. This step will focus on interpreting how the artist's personal struggles, achievements, and artistic influences intertwine to form a narrative of success. The researcher will pay particular attention to the emotional and psychological aspects of the artist’s journey, including how her disability has shaped her creative resilience and identity (Riessman, 2020).
4. Visual Interpretation of the Narrative. After analyzing the narratives, the researcher will use the identified themes to inform the creation of an original acrylic painting. The painting will be designed to represent the artist’s journey visually, incorporating symbolic elements drawn from her narratives. The visual representation will be a direct manifestation of the themes identified during the analysis, such as the artist’s perseverance, growth, and creativity. The researcher will consider the artist’s stylistic preferences, as well as key moments from her journey, when conceptualizing the composition and visual symbolism in the painting (Sullivan, 2022).
5. Validation of Findings. Throughout the analysis process, the researcher will engage in member checking by sharing the findings and the visual representation with the artist to ensure that the themes and the painting accurately reflect her lived experience (Lincoln & Guba, 2020).
