Presentation of Results of the Study: (Interview of the Participant/s)
Presentation of Themes: Clearly describe each theme that emerged from your data analysis.
Supporting Quotes: Include relevant quotes from participants to illustrate each theme.
Objective Summary: Summarize how these themes relate to your research questions without interpreting their meaning.
Interpretation and Discussion:
Interpret findings in light of existing literature.
Discuss implications, limitations, and recommendations for future research.
Relate findings back to broader theoretical frameworks or debates.
In qualitative research, the terms "interpretation" and "discussion" are related but not exactly synonymous. Here's how they differ:
Interpretation: This involves giving meaning to the data collected during the research process. It is about explaining and making sense of the findings by identifying patterns, themes, and relationships within the data (Kruger et al., 2020; Willig, 2021). Interpretation is a crucial part of qualitative analysis where researchers delve into understanding what their data signifies in relation to their research questions.
Discussion: This section typically follows interpretation in a qualitative study. It involves analyzing and interpreting findings in light of broader literature or theoretical frameworks (Willig, 2020). The discussion section relates your specific study results back to existing knowledge on the topic, discusses implications for practice or theory, addresses limitations of your study, and suggests avenues for future research.
While interpretation focuses on extracting meaning from your specific dataset within its context, discussion places those interpretations into a larger academic conversation. In some cases, especially when combining results with discussion per theme as you mentioned earlier, these processes can overlap closely because you're both interpreting your data (giving it meaning) and discussing it in relation to broader contexts simultaneously. However, if you were writing separate sections:
Interpretation would focus more on how you derived themes from your data.
Discussion would then expand upon those themes by relating them to existing literature or theoretical frameworks.
Given that many studies blend these processes together under one heading like "Results & Discussion," it's common for them not to be strictly separated unless specified otherwise by guidelines or conventions in your field.
Note: Consider this sample in presentation the data for Research question 2 and so on.
Motivations of the Local Artist
Theme 1: Family Support
Results: The artist emphasized how family support positively impacts her motivation. She mentioned that her needs were met by her parents and siblings, stating:
"Both my parents, and my siblings—mga kapatid ko" (meaning "my siblings"), indicating that familial relationships are crucial for her artistic pursuits. Additionally, she noted being inspired by individuals who appreciated and supported her work, including researchers involved in the study: "Siguro sa mga tao na binibigyan ko ng inspirasyon...hindi lang sa sarili ko—syempre makakatulong din ako sa katulad niyo (the researchers) yan isa din kayo sa naging part kayo ng life ko..." (Perhaps it's because of the people I inspire...I can also help those like you; you are part of my life too.)
Interpretation: This suggests that family support not only provides financial stability but also emotional reassurance essential for artistic development.
Discussion: This finding aligns with broader literature on social networks in creative endeavors (Matthews, 2023). However, it contrasts with studies suggesting external pressures from family can hinder creativity due to expectations or criticism (Amabile, 2023).
Theme 2: Transforming Negative Feedback
Results: The artist discussed transforming negative feedback into motivation. Despite encountering criticism or bullying, she chose to channel these experiences into constructive energy rather than letting them deter her creativity. She expressed this transformation by stating: "May ara mga basher ya...um like bullying kasi may mga nagahambal nga ay duka law-ay mana sang art mo ay hindi nami mga amuna so that’s why nga gina say ko nalang sa mind ko sige lang gihapon go kalang nga ipakita mo nga tanan nga negative mapakita mo sa art mo " (There are bashers...like bullying because some say your art is bad; they don't like it; so I just tell myself to keep going anyway; show them all your negative thoughts through your art)
Interpretation: This proactive approach demonstrates resilience and confidence in facing adversity through creative expression.
Discussion: This ability resonates with psychological theories on coping mechanisms (Lazarus & Folkman, 2023). Contrasting this, some research suggests constant exposure to negative feedback can lead to decreased self-esteem and reduced creative output over time (Kaufman & Baer, 2022).
Theme 3: Motivation as Guidance for Personal Growth
Results: The information gathered highlights how motivation serves as invaluable guidance toward personal development. When asked about advice for aspiring artists, the participant emphasized maintaining hope and enthusiasm despite challenges: "Huwag silang mawalan ng pag-asa huwag silang mawalan ng gana sa art dahil ang art ay isa sa mga bagay napray mo rin siya someday na magiging ano mo sa buhay mo magiging part na even though nasa bahay ka lang pwede kang makapag-draw” (Don't lose hope or enthusiasm for your craft because one day it will become something important in your life; even if you're just at home, you can draw portraits).
Interpretation: This underscores the importance of persistence in achieving success in artistic endeavors while highlighting the therapeutic benefits of engaging with art.
Discussion: These findings align with research emphasizing the role of intrinsic motivation and passion in driving creative pursuits (Amabile, 2023). The participant's advice to maintain hope and enthusiasm supports theories on goal-setting and self-efficacy (Bandura, 2022), where believing in one's abilities enhances performance. However, some studies suggest that external pressures can undermine intrinsic motivation if not managed carefully (Deci & Ryan, 2020). Our findings highlight a positive impact when support systems foster resilience without imposing undue expectations. Moreover, the therapeutic benefits mentioned resonate with literature on arts-based interventions as tools for stress reduction and mental well-being (Stuckey & Nobel, 2020). Future studies could explore how different types of motivational strategies influence artistic development across various cultural contexts.
Implications, Limitations, and Recommendations for Future Research.
Implications
The findings of this study have several implications for understanding the motivations of local artists. Firstly, they highlight the importance of family support in fostering artistic motivation. This suggests that initiatives aimed at promoting local art should consider involving family members or providing resources that mimic familial support structures. Secondly, the ability to transform negative feedback into motivation underscores resilience as a key trait for artists facing criticism. This implies that workshops or programs focused on developing coping strategies could be beneficial for emerging artists. Lastly, emphasizing persistence and hope aligns with theories on intrinsic motivation and self-efficacy (Amabile, 2023; Bandura, 2023), suggesting that interventions promoting these qualities could enhance artistic development.
Limitations
This study is limited by its focus on a single artist's experiences. While rich in depth due to qualitative methods used, it lacks generalizability across different contexts or populations. Additionally, it does not explore how external factors like economic conditions might influence artistic motivation beyond familial support.
Recommendations for Future Research
To further understand artistic motivations, several avenues for future research emerge. Conducting cross-cultural comparisons could reveal how societal norms influence creativity. Quantitative validation through surveys would help assess the broader applicability of our findings. Exploring external factors like economic conditions and resource access would provide a more comprehensive view of what motivates local artists. Additionally, designing interventions—such as resilience-building workshops—and evaluating their effectiveness could enhance artistic output. By pursuing these paths, we can develop targeted strategies to support local artists' growth and success in diverse environments, ultimately enriching our understanding of what drives creativity.

This section presents the evaluation results of the Acrylic Painting on Canvas, assessed using the Visual Arts Production Evaluation Tool. The evaluation focused on six key indicators: Visual Representation Assessment, Thematic Alignment, Emotional Impact, Authenticity, Aesthetic Quality, and Participant Feedback.
Each indicator was rated by five evaluators on a 1 to 5 scale, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest. The results are discussed below, with corresponding tables summarizing the ratings.
As shown in Table 1, the painting effectively utilizes colors, shapes, and textures to convey the artist’s motivations and success, achieving an average score of 3.8. However, evaluators noted that the symbolic elements could be more distinct, as reflected in the slightly lower average score of 3.4. This suggests that while the artwork communicates meaning, further refinements in symbolism could enhance its overall visual representation.
The painting successfully aligns with the artist’s motivations and personal journey, as indicated in Table 2, where it received an average rating of 4.0. However, some evaluators felt that key moments from the artist’s story were not strongly emphasized, leading to a slightly lower score of 3.6. To enhance thematic clarity, evaluators suggested integrating more explicit visual references to significant moments or quotes from the artist’s experiences.
As presented in Table 3, the painting received strong ratings for its emotional impact, with evaluators agreeing that it effectively evokes emotions related to the artist’s journey (4.2) and maintains emotional consistency (4.0). The use of expressive color choices and brushwork contributed to the painting’s ability to convey themes of struggle, resilience, and success.
While the painting accurately reflects the artist’s experiences, some evaluators noted that certain aspects could be more deeply personalized, as shown in Table 4. The painting’s alignment with the artist’s life story and research received an average rating of 3.6 and 3.4, indicating that a stronger connection to the artist’s narrative could improve its authenticity.
As indicated in Table 5, the painting’s aesthetic execution was one of its strongest aspects, with high ratings for artistic skill (4.4) and overall execution (4.2). Evaluators commended the artist’s composition, color balance, and brushwork, which effectively contributed to the painting’s visual appeal.
The artist’s personal feedback was also gathered to assess the painting’s alignment with her emotions and experiences. As reflected in Table 6, the participant felt that the painting accurately represented her story, rating it 4 out of 5. However, she noted that some aspects could be adjusted to better reflect personal experiences, which was reflected in her slightly lower score of 3.6 for emotional connection.
The table below presents a summary of the average ratings across all evaluation indicators:
The painting excels in aesthetic quality (4.3) and emotional impact (4.1), demonstrating strong artistic execution and expressive depth.
The visual representation and thematic alignment could be enhanced by incorporating more symbolic elements and clearer narrative references.
Authenticity could be further improved by ensuring a stronger connection to the artist’s personal story and research findings.
Based on the participant's feedback, minor refinements could be made to strengthen emotional resonance and personal significance.
Overall, the evaluation results highlight the painting’s strengths in artistic execution and emotional depth, while also identifying opportunities for refinement to enhance its thematic clarity, authenticity, and symbolic representation. With these minor adjustments, the painting has the potential to achieve a more powerful and deeply personal artistic expression.
