Amid pandemic struggle cause by COVID-19, the New Generation Bikers Club (NGBC) rode their bikes early in the morning to Mapurao Integrated Learning School (MILS) to conduct their first community service for an educational institution last April 17, 2021.
Initiated by Mr. Romulo Lagasca and Mr. Winston Sto. Tomas, the bike club president and one of the advisers of the club respectively, the said activity provided the school with man-power to complement the deficiency of work force in the midst of pandemic in which parents’ attendance to school activities such as school ground improvement is limited while learners’ participation is forbidden for health-related reason.
More or less 20 participants in the said activity helped hand-in-hand in cleaning the school ground by trimming tall grasses using three grass cutters in which the two were borrowed from the barangay council. They also painted roofs of some buildings as well as the steel windows of the canteen and the steel posts of the covered walks while others swept dried leaves and other waste materials from the school ground.
“It is a truly remarkable act that in spite of our situation today where the movement of people are limited and it is very hard to encourage parents to assist teachers in maintaining the school premises and facilities, the NGBC still lent a hand knowing that teachers cannot do the job alone because of other concerns relative to their duty as focal persons in their respective classes,” said Ma’am Rowena Sto. Tomas in an interview, the head of the school who was also present during the activity.
