Principal's Message
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Ilagan West Central School!
Our school is now part of exceptional learning community. An advocate of inclusive education, where we accept and embrace all types of learners regardless of their culture, religion, gender, socio-economic status, abilities and or disabilities. At IWCS, you will find a place to grow, a place to connect and a place to belong. Here, every learner is known by name and celebrated for its unique talents they bring to our institution. We aim to instill in every pupil a sense of responsibility, acceptance, confidence, a yearning for knowledge and a love of learning that extends beyond their elementary journey.
Along this claim, our school is offering Special Education Program which caters Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSENs)or Children with Disabilities/Exceptionalities which includes Gifted and Talented (GT) and Non-Graded. Among the programs are Self-Contained, Homebound, Mainstreaming and Transition. These Programs are essential in developing the capacities of your young children to become productive citizens in the society someday.
Our teachers are highly dedicated, well-trained professionals. As a team, we constantly seek better ways to teach young minds. We enhance and personalize the curriculum so it is relevant and adoptive to the needs of the diverse learners. We extend areas of strengths and support areas of weaknesses and attend to the emotional, social and physical well-being of every pupil.
The school also recognizes the involvement of parents as an indicator to learners' success. Together let us a build a community that cares for the holistic development of the IWCSians. We invite you to join in our assemblies/PTA meetings and other important forum for connecting as a community for you to have opportunities to meet teachers, contribute to class inquiries and your child's development. In 1931, after a surprise visit of the late Commonwealth President Manuel Luis Quezon to the Municipality of Ilagan, he ordered the conversion of the then Rural High School to Intermediate Rural Farm School for Grades V, VI and VII. He felt that the form of education at the secondary level be given also to Comprehensive Intermediate School. The value-laden proposition was welcomed.
From Comprehensive Intermediate School, it was renamed Ilagan Farm School and it retained that name until 1961 when it was named Ilagan Pilot School. In the 70’s, it was renamed Ilagan Regional Pilot School (IRPES), school center for giving food and assistance from the US government which includes food derived from wheat products such as quaker oats and skim milk and it was also the training center for teachers in the elementary in the entire Northern Luzon Region. Then when it ceased to be the Regional Training Center it was renamed to Ilagan Pilot Elementary School (IPES). The school is composed of a Gabaldon type building, Home Economics Building likened to a family house, Industrial Arts Building and other buildings. Now it is called Ilagan West Central School, the seat of the Ilagan West District Office.
At present, the school has seventeen (17) buildings scattered on a rolling terrain on top of a hill. The school has an area of 21.880 hectares: the more or less 20 hectares is a corn field occasionally flooded every year by the grand Cagayan River making it fertile and suitable to farming and the remaining 1.8 hectares used for the school.
