Education in the Midst of Pandemic

The outbreak of Covid-19 had changed the entire world and to cope with the change, the Department of Education has shifted from the normal to the “new normal”. In the new normal the Department of Education has shifted in alternative Delivery Mode were in there is no face to face classes and this is to protect the people from Coronavirus disease. Since education must continue, the government specially the Department of Education adopts the Alternative Learning Modality. The Department of Education prepares the teachers by giving them various virtual seminars, trainings, workshops and many more since face to face is impossible. These teachers were shielded with knowledge and skills to prepare them for the new normal.

This Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) that aims to provide learners with equal access to quality basic education through a home-based environment to be facilitated by parents, guardians or tutor. Since education is continuous process, the Department of Education prepares the teachers to this pandemic school year by giving them various seminars, trainings, workshops and many more through virtual since face to face is impossible. These teachers were shielded with knowledge and skills to prepare them for the new normal. Teachers need to learn new skills on distance learning and integrate technology into their teaching in order to perform their duties as teachers. While, children need to develop independence since they will stay into their homes to learn and their parents will be their tutors.

Masin Elementary School is not exempted in adopting this learning modality. In fact some of the students choose the most common modality which is the Modular Distance Learning(printed). Since this modality is new to us, as we start the school year, we experienced hardships specially during the process on how we go through to this new normal. “The preparations, the distribution, and the collections of modules in the Barangay Hall of Masin are somewhat challenging task that if you are gone through these experiences it is a heart fulfilling task that in the end of the day you will say to yourself,” “God I made it”. MES Teachers stated.
