This Page Highlights One Assignment:
Students were asked to produce a 10 - 15 second stop motion animation using two-dimensional drawing as the fundamental basis of their project. They were encouraged to use additional objects, a range of mediums (charcoal, ink, conte, etc.), paper cut-outs, and sound in their work. The only requirement was that their animation must relay some kind of narrative that includes a beginning, a middle, and an end. The objective of this project was to approach the idea of drawing from a new and dynamic perspective beyond the scope of static representation, to push the students into a new material and conceptual mode of thinking, and to visualize Time on a different axis. I also wanted to create a challenging final project that investigates the tension between material and digital realities - something we’ve all been juggling during this pandemic.
