The Los Baños Experiment Station (LBES), previously known as the Los Baños Forest Experiment Station (LBFES), was a former research unit of the Bureau of Forestry. In 1974 the Forest Research Institute (FORI) was established through the effort of Dr. Filiberto S. Pollisco who also served as its first Director. In recognition of its research mandates, the Bureau of Forestry turned over to FORI all its experiment stations and research units to the Field Operations Office which is directly under the Office of the Director.
LBES is located within the Mt. Makiling Forest Reserve Area. It occupies 48 ha. land area at an elevation of 400 meters above sea level. It is 1 kilometer away from the famous Mud spring (boiling mud) and 3.5 kilometer or 30 minute drive from the ERDB headquarter.
