OVERVIEW
Students will learn how to sort objects and classify them using more than one criterion, collect and record discrete data using tally marks, record results in simple lists, tables, pictograms and block graphs, extract and interpret information from statistical diagrams and charts, calculate the mean as an average for simple sets of discrete data, use Venn and Carroll diagrams to record their sorting and classifying of information, use ICT to construct different statistical diagrams, understand continuous data and use grouped frequency, design a survey or experiment to capture the necessary data from one or more sources; design, trial and, if necessary, refine data collection.
Write simple algebraic expressions, substitute numbers into algebraic expressions, simplify algebraic expressions by collecting like terms, write simple formulae.
Find equivalent fractions and compare fractions with different denominators, write fractions in their simplest form, add and subtract fractions with the same denominators, convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions, add and subtract fractions with different denominators, add two mixed numbers, subtract one mixed number from another mixed number.
