OVERVIEW
Students will learn how to distinguish between straight and turning movements, recognise right angles and understand angle as a measurement of turn, recognise and draw right angles, read the scale on a protractor, use a protractor to measure and draw angles, use a compass to give directions, know the different types of angles, know and use the facts that angles at a point sum to 360°, angles at a point on a straight line sum to 180° and angles in a triangle sum to 180°, calculate opposite angles.
Understand the properties of parallel, intersecting and perpendicular lines, plot coordinates in all quadrants, recognise and draw lines such as x=3 and y=-1, read values from conversion graphs, recognise and draw the lines of the form y=x, y=x+a and y=ax, recognise and draw the lines of the form y+x=a and know that all straight lines can be written as y=mx+c.
