SAFEGUARDING

Water safety: Recognising the risks in coastal and river areas. Highlight that swimming in rivers and the coast is very different from swimming pools. Water temperature, currents. What to do if they get into trouble. Stay where lifeguard role of them are don't go out of your depth.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

The importance of water is discussed as well as the impacts of not having enough water. Personal stories and impacts of river flooding on individuals is discussed.

DIVERSITY

Individual liberty is highlighted when discussing how coastlines are used, mutual respect is taught when discussing coral reefs. 

CULTURAL CAPITAL

Students will increase their knowledge of globally significant places and begin to study how developed and developing countries differ. 

KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER (CROSS CURRICULAR)

• Literacy: expanding geographical terminology. 

• Numeracy: Opportunity to explore differences between miles and kilometres and conversion of meters to kilometers.
