OVERVIEW

The rock type and land use of different areas of the UK and the historical geographical processes that have formed distinctive landscapes in the UK.

GEOGRAPHICAL KNOWLEDGE

• I know the role of geology, past tectonic and glacial processes in the development of upland and lowland landscapes

• I know the characteristics and distribution of the UK’s main rock types: sedimentary,  igneous, metamorphic.

• I know why distinctive landscapes result from the interaction of physical processes: weathering and climatological, post-glacial river and slope processes.

• I know why distinctive landscapes result from human activity (agriculture, forestry, settlement) over time.

• I can use photographs to analyse common glacial, fluvial and coastal landscapes and features

• I can use geological cross-sections to show the relationship between geology and relief

• I can locate key physical features (uplands, lowland basins, rivers) on outline UK maps

• I can recognise physical and human geography features on 1:25000 and 1:50000 OS maps.
