Denbigh English Curriculum Journey - Year 11 Prep & practice

OVERVIEW

Paper 1: students will revisit the content of Shakespeare and 19th century literature by exploring themes and characters that are present, making links to contextual factors. They will then use this form of retireval practice to answer exam style questions. Paper 2: students will revisit the content of the Modern Text and their Poetry GCSE. They will explore a variety of themes through language, focussing on analytical writing exploring language, structure and character in preparation for the GCSE Literature exam.

ACADEMIC LITERACY

Contextual knowledge and development of writing skills. Achieving mastery of writing though various language techniques such as charactonyms.

CAREERS

Author, Journalism, Poet, Linguistics, Politics, Social Care, Teaching - developing students’ interest through discussion and research.

WIDER READING

Promote reading of current affairs - newspaper articles, opinion pieces and journals.

SAFEGUARDING

Discussion on thematic topics such as self harm/suicide, homelessness, abuse, forced marriage, child poverty/neglect, mental health.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Literacy, oracy, passion for Shakespeare and 19th Century texts - Dickens, Priestley. Showing resilience through the stories of the characters.

DIVERSITY

Writers from different cultures and backgrounds explored with relevant themes and issues.

CULTURAL CAPITAL

Social responsibility. Recognising emotions and attributing them to certain characters and situations. Good and evil - socialism and capitalism. Political parties and concepts gender and class inequalities.
