OVERVIEW
Students will study organic chemistry with a focus on alkanes, their properties and combustion. Students will look at how fractional distillation and cracking are used on an industrial scale to produce fuels and other products. They will then look at the Earth's atmosphere and how it has changed and is continuing to change over time as a result of human activity. Students will then look at the Earth's resources, how decisions are made about their use and their environmental impact.
Triple science only: Students will also look at different processes used to make key industrial chemicals and will look in greater depth at organic chemical compounds including alkenes, carboxylic acids and alcohols.
