Educational Philosophy&What to Expect in the 5th Grade?

I am so excited to be a 5th grade teacher at Del Mar Hills Academy. I have been a member of the Del Mar Union School District family for 14 years and have loved every minute of it. I am so excited to start my 10th year at the Hills and my 6th year with 5th graders! I attended college in Missouri where I received my degrees in education as well as vocal and instrumental music. While in college, I also spent time training as an classical opera singer where I was selected to perform in many operas as well as singing my way through a tour in Europe. I also hold credentials in educational administration with additional training in Quantum Learning and CGI Mathematics.

Because of my arts background, I truly believe that cross curricular education is important. I understand that all students learn in different ways. All students have different interests and subjects that make learning fun. Our classroom is full of diverse learning opportunities, student-led discussions, and the use of multiple modalities for successful learning. ALL students can be successful if given the right tools for their individualized learning. In 5th Grade, we strive to create lifelong learners.

Life Outside of the Ocean

The oldest of 23 grandchildren (9 grands and 14 great grands) I have been around and teaching children since the age of 9. Children and the education of children is my passion, not my job, and I couldn't imagine a more perfect place to spread my love for both than this amazing school I am so lucky to be a part of.

I spend most of my time at Irish dance competitions as my daughter, Mackenzie, is a competitive Irish dancer. However, when I do find myself with free time I love doing yoga, reading crime novels, going to the beach, hiking with my husband and our friends, watching MIZZOU football (M-I-Z-Z-O-U) Blues hockey, and CARDINAL BASEBALL! GO CARDS!

I am looking forward to an amazing year and can't wait to spend my days with incredible students!
