Welcome to Pacific Sky!

I graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder with a sociology degree.  Go Buffs!  Then, moved to San Diego and went to CSUSM to get my teaching credential.  During that time I did my student teaching in Del Mar and fell in love with this school district.  I spent time as a substitute and librarian at Ashley Falls, then was hired as a first grade teacher in 2007.  I taught first grade for 2 years, then second grade for 16 years!  I am so excited to begin my journey as a Pilot this year in 4th grade.  I love Del Mar and am so fortunate to teach in this district!

What to Expect in 4th Grade

Welcome to 4th Grade!  This is an exciting year filled with fun and learning!  What I am a most excited about teaching fourth graders is helping them develop their critical thinking skills and their love of learning!  My mission is to ensure that every child feels valued, loved and accepted.  I believe that children learn in many ways, and it is my job to meet them where they are and challenge them to new learning and experiences.  This year, I will assist them in developing independence and learning to identify areas of strength as well as areas of growth.  I am passionate about teaching and pride myself in fostering creativity, a love of learning and student agency.

This year, students will utilize and strengthen their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.  Fourth grade readers will acquire many reading strategies and put them into practice through read alouds, novel studies and our district-wide language arts program.  We will be developing fluency with multi-digit multiplication and division, manipulating fractions and understanding geometric figures in math.  This year we will learn from the history of California and problem solve for the future of our "Golden State" in our social studies curriculum.  Scientists will discover patterns in Earth's features and how the land changes, learn about plant and animal structures that support survival, and engage in projects involving energy and motion!  It is going to be an exciting year!

Life Outside of Studio 315

About Me!

I am originally from the small town of Belleville, Illinois, just outside of St. Louis, MO.  Yes, this makes me a Cardinals baseball and Blues hockey fan!  I have been living in San Diego for 22 years.   When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my incredible family.  Mike and I have two kids, Riley and BradynRiley is eight and loves softball, skincare and family adventuresI am so excited that she will be in 3nd grade at Pacific Sky this year!  Bradyn is five and loves baseball, the Padres, Star Wars and monster trucks!   He is looking forward to joining our campus in Kindergarten this year. These two definitely keep us on our toes!  When I'm not attending softball or baseball games; I love going on family adventures, reading, visiting with friends, going to country concerts, camping, watching sports, working out, dining out and when I'm lucky...getting a day to pamper myself.  I can't wait to learn all about your child and work alongside your family this year!
