Button Maker

An image of a round button maker.

Our button maker is designed to create 1.25" or 3" buttons. It makes one button at a time, but makes them easily in a two step process. The 1.25" buttons can be pin back or magnet backed. The 3" buttons have a pin back, but a magnetic strip can be added to the back instead.

How it works

Using a computer you can create your button images. They need to be 1.629" in diameter, but the picture size needs to be 1.156" in diameter. Everything outside that picture will be seen only in the wrap around. From there you can use a die punch to cut them out of the paper. You'll place a button shell into one side of the button maker, then place your image, and a clear disc on top. Press the button maker down to lock them all together. Then you'll swing the die around and place a pin back in. Press the button maker down once more to attach the image to the back and you've created your button.

Things to consider

  • Our button maker only can support regular printer paper. Photo paper, card stock, and fabric are not able to be used with this button maker.

  • This tool is available for patrons to use themselves. Staff will show you how to use it, then you are able to create your own buttons.

  • There is a $0.10 charge per button to pay for the materials. If a button is not properly created, but the materials are used, you will need to pay for that one as well.
