Science Instruction

Next Generation Science Standards

All students in grades K-8 will be taught using the Next Generation Science Standards this school year. These science standards are like nothing before. They require students to become active investigators exploring phenomena that exist in the world around them. According to the standards, science is at the heart of the United States’ ability to continue to innovate, lead, and create the jobs of the future. All students—whether they become technicians in a hospital, workers in a high tech manufacturing facility, or Ph.D. researchers—must have a solid K–12 science education.

Teachers will be using FOSS science resources as well as online programs to teach the Next Generation Science Standards. Students will be engaging in investigations which require them to explore, develop, and refine ideas surrounding science. They will have opportunities to do the work of engineers by identifying real world problems and designing solutions. Most of this work is though hands on investigations in the classroom.
