Greenlodge News

Greenlodge News is a weekly news video for and about the school created by fifth grade students. Our news reporters spend a week preparing each episode before it airs for the school community and town.

Students report on school news, including field trips, assemblies, concerts, and other events like the science fair, spelling bee, book fair, field day, etc. We also include a Staff Spotlight, This Week in History, Weather Report, Book Review, and more as needed to make sure we have a full episode each week.

On Mondays, students divide up the weekly news stories, brainstorm interview questions and go out to interview students and staff around the school. They write their news reports in a shared GoogleDoc on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Thursdays, students use the library during recess to record each other with a greenscreen. On Fridays, students use the app DoInk to put the videos together with photographs they either took or found (suitable for reuse). After completing the video, they watch it and reflect on their progress over the week using a rubric.

The following Monday, the entire school watches the episode. It is also shown on the local television station each day that week. Archived episodes can be found under "What Are Our Students Doing" page on the Greenlodge Library website.
