Many youth do NOT use alcohol and other drugs. Parents and caretakers are one of the main reasons Decatur teens choose not to use. However, many of our teens are regularly faced with the opportunity to drink, vape, or use other drugs. Addiction can happen to any family, and all teens are vulnerable (their brains are just wired for them to take risks).
Meet with DHS staff to talk about some early warning signs and symptoms, the potential consequences of using at school or school-sponsored events, the impact on their future (i.e. college admissions), and accessing early interventions offered by CSD. Resources will be shared to help parents find additional information and support.
Be prepared and informed to help your teen or support other parents when they encounter this issue. This event is organized by the DHS Student Center and the Decatur Parents Network. We encourage all parents and caretakers to come together and have an open discussion about teens and substance use. Let's work together to prevent or intervene early.
