Making is a way of knowing!
Our STEaM Studio is a place of unbounded imagination where we foster and facilitate an informal learning space for making and tinkering. We believe deeply in studio pedagogy and the ability we all have to think with our hands and develop personal and unique understandings of the world for ourselves. Our collaborative, project-based approach in the studio incorporates educational theories of constructivism, constructionism, brain-based learning, and multiple intelligences,
Our curriculum is designed to engage, motivate, and empower learners to build 21st-century skills, meet the technology standards, and prepare students to compete in a global economy.

Visiting the Studio
This year, students will come to the STEAM Studio weekly and their work will be shared via Seesaw or Google Classroom. K-2 visits throughout the year to support their Math and Science curriculum, through experimentation and discovery with open-ended materials and developing an understanding of the design process. We will use a selection of digital formats as well. Grades 3-8 students in will come to the Studio in Cycles to provide an intense 60 day work time. Topics this year will focus on Entrepreneurship and Animation.
Cycle 1 Fall Grades 5 & 6
Cycle 2 Winter Grades 3 & 4
Cycle 3 Spring Grades 7 & 8
Documenting Learning in the studio is designed to be progressive and allow for continuity throughout your child’s years at the Deal School. The K-2 classes will utilize a Seesaw portfolio to document their learning and grades 3-8 will use an ePortfolio (digital portfolio) through Google Classroom.
Enrichment and Green Team in the studio will happen during the WIN period and recess Tuesdays and Fridays.
Please note: we're still in a global pandemic.
Things are not normal. Your health and well-being are more important than anything. I'm going to do my best to teach, advise, and collaborate to the
best of my ability. I understand that you are all doing your best given that there's a pandemic and nothing is normal. Almost everything is flexible.
Just ask.
