Interested in E-Learning?

The Durham District School board will be offering a number of courses in an online eLearning platform for the 2018-2019 school year. Interested DDSB students who are in Grade 11 and 12 in the 2018-2019 school year, have an opportunity to enroll in up to two online courses in a year (one per semester). Click here to see the 2018-2019 regular secondary course offerings . Online course selection closes at noon on Thursday, March 22nd, 2018. If you missed the online request, please talk to your guidance counselor about taking an e-Learning class.

Is e-Learning for me?

eLearning may not be for everyone. Some students are able to thrive in this type of learning environment, while others may not be suited to this form of learning. Here are some characteristics of a successful eLearner:

  • Motivated and interested in learning new things
  • Engaged, self-disciplined and resilient; able to learn without face-to-face interactions
  • Proactive and a self-advocate: asks questions of the instructor and peers; seeks out help from the eLearning teacher when needed
  • Takes responsibility for their work, meets due dates for required weekly work while preparing for long-term assignments, independent research, and collaborative projects
  • Logs in daily to the course and is able to spend 75 minute per day dedicated to the course in addition to homework/assignment time
  • Willing to participate in online discussions

If you are a student who will be in Grade 11 or 12 in the 2018-2019 school year and think you have the characteristics to be successful in an eLearning environment, please speak to your school guidance counselor.
