Students will be asked to make equivalent fractions in fourth grade. Equivalent means equal. The video below demonstrates how to make equal fractions. Sample Word Problems:
Charlie ate 2/3 of his pepperoni pizza. Gordon ate 3/6 of his sausage pizza. Did the boys eat the same amount of pizza?
John ate 2/3 of his cookie. Katie ate 4/6 of her cookie. Did they eat an equal amount of cookie?
Hannah ate 1/2 of her birthday cake last week. Her twin sister ate 4/8 of the cake. Did they get equal amounts of their birthday cake?
Alex painted 3/6 of his house white. Don painted 3/8 of his house white. Do they have the same amount of their houses painted white?
A vendor at the farmer's market noticed that 4/5 of his customers bought fruit and 2/10 of his customers bought vegetables. Does he sell the same amount of fruit and vegetables?
