Speech Language Pathologist
Hello! My name is Kaitlyn Bendlin and I am so grateful to be returning to Northeast for my fifth year as the speech-language pathologist.
Born and raised in Orange County, New York, I moved out to Colorado in the summer of 2015 to explore a new part of the country and start a new adventure. Back in NY, I received a B.A. in Anthropology and a B.S. in Human Development at Binghamton University before I completed my M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology at Syracuse University. Prior to moving out to Colorado and working at Northeast, I completed my clinical fellowship at a preschool for children with special needs in Monroe, NY.
I try to keep life as interesting and eclectic as possible! Outside of Northeast I can be found hiking, skiing, taking ballet and Spanish classes, climbing, or attending a book reading or creative writing workshop. I also try to visit my NY family as much as possible!
My goal at Northeast is to help as many students as I can to become confident communicators. I believe in a strong sense of community among and between staff and students, as well as the benefits of authentic learning experiences. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. See you in August!

I’m a Colorado native and actually grew up in the Parker area. I received my B.A. in Psychology at the University of Northern Colorado and received my Ed.S. in Child, Family, and School Psychology with a Concentration in Early Childhood at the University of Denver. Mild/ Moderate Needs Teacher
Hello, my name is Joan Lazzell and I am very excited to start my second school year at Northeast Elementary as one of the special education teachers! Prior to coming to Northeast, I was a Special Educator in Denver Public Schools as well as in Douglas County and also taught 2nd grade. Originally, I am from a northern suburb of Chicago and am a lifelong Cubs and Bears fan! I received my undergraduate degrees in Elementary Education and Psychology from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. After moving to Colorado, I attended the University of Colorado Denver and earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education, Mild/Moderate Needs.
I have two daughters, Sydney (23) and Nicole (19). Both attended Douglas County Schools from kindergarten through high school and graduated from Mountain Vista. Sydney is currently attending graduate school at Midwestern University in Illinois and is studying to be a Physical Therapist. Nicole will be a sophomore this year at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu and is majoring in Art Studio. One of my favorite Colorado activities is to hike with my yellow lab/retriever mix, Wrigley. I also enjoy traveling, spending time in the mountains, going to the theater and trying out new restaurants around Denver!
