Meet Mrs. DeYoung

Welcome

Welcome new second grade students and families! I am so excited to be your teacher for the new 2017-2018 school year. We are going to have a great year together! I wanted to take a moment to let you know how very excited I am that your child is in our 2nd Grade class. As a parent I know that your child is the most important part of your life and your most treasured possession. I know as a teacher how important it is to be a positive influence in each one of their lives . I also want you to know that my hope and goal is come along side of you in your journey with your child and family to bring out the very best in your child this year. Our classroom door is always open to you and I welcome your feedback, concerns and any other situations that arise throughout the year. I am looking forward to a SUPER year learning new things, making new friends, and creating amazing second grade memories together!

As you enjoy the last weeks of summer I hope this brings some peace and excitement about our journey ahead. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions between now and then.

Warmly,

Mrs. DeYoung

About Me

It's hard to believe that I'm going into my 24th year of teaching... Wow! My family is from Michigan, but I grew up mainly in Iowa. I am a proud graduate of Iowa State University... go Cyclones! After graduation I immediately headed for new adventures in beautiful Colorado. I first taught in the Cherry Creek School District for eight years. While teaching in CCSD, I was trained in Reading Recovery and earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from UCD. I became a certified Reading Teacher then spent some time as a reading intervention teacher in DCSD. During this time I was also trained in the Wilson reading intervention program. I came to Heritage Elementary 12 years ago when my children were in 1st grade here. I have enjoyed teaching first and second grade at Heritage ever since.

I feel blessed to be able to live and work in the Heritage community. I have 19-year-old triplets who attended Heritage from preschool through 6th grade! We of course love this school and community! Kylee now attends CU in Boulder. Madisen and Reece are both attending college on the Auraria campus, Madi at UCD and Reece at Metro. We have survived our first year of college and are ready to move forward! I also have a seven year old son, Cooper, who is in second grade as well this year. Many of you may already know him! I am so excited to hear his perspective of 2nd grade! My family enjoys spending time together going on walks/hikes, driving to the mountains, camping, watching movies, playing video games, watching sports and just hanging out and having fun together! I can't wait to learn all about you!
