CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, Service. This is one of the three Core Elements required by the IB for successful completion of the Diploma Programme, and is one of the options students can choose from to meet the requirements for DC's Scholars Programme. The purpose is to engage students in a range of enjoyable and significant experiences. In addition students will participate in the culminating CAS project.

Every year, students have the opportunity to travel internationally for a CAS trip. This trip combines sightseeing with cultural immersion, community service, and so much more! For the October 2027 trip, there are 5 options:
Azores Islands. Volcano craters, waterfalls, hot springs, extraordinary agriculture, tropical climate. The Azores stun their visitors with outdoor adventures and much more. Explore Sao Miguel Island and its diverse environment with our local CAS Trips leader to learn all about the unique flora and fauna in the region. Known for its world-class whale watching opportunities, the natural environment and strong focus on renewable energy stand at the forefront of any trip to The Azores – a truly sustainable travel destination. Barcelona, Spain. Wander charming neighborhoods and Park Güell, boasting beautiful architectural elements, and enjoy stunning views across this Catalonian city. Whether you are interested in history or culinary, Barcelona has it all. Rooted in culture and tradition yet open to modernity, Barcelona is bound to become an unforgettable destination for all. Indulge in world-class tapas, gaze at marvelous architecture and spend time at the beach in this wonderful seaside city. Dublin, Ireland. Dublin is a city shaped by words, resilience, and reinvention. Home to literary legends, it continues to champion the power of storytelling, on the stage, in the streets, and through community action. Students will engage with Dublin’s layered identity, exploring its literary and cultural roots while confronting present-day challenges through workshops in theatre, sport, sustainability, and social impact. Potential Activities Include: Gaelic games, Irish dance party, Book of Kells experience, Community garden work.
Edinburgh, Scotland. With outstanding architectural charm, modern day Edinburgh is the perfect setting to further explore – with a spectacular Gothic UNESCO-listed old town playing host to some of the most dynamic and varied art schools and community projects in the world. We discover the ancient art of Scottish storytelling, visit unique local arts projects, ramble and kayak through the glorious mountains, dance the night away in a traditional Cèilidh and get involved with some fantastic charities. Florence, Italy. In Florence, the echoes of the past meet the energy of the present. Renaissance architecture, world-famous galleries, and tucked-away artisan studios set the stage for a journey that blends creativity, culture, and community. From practicing different artistic techniques to joining local efforts that support people experiencing homelessness, this trip encourages students to reflect on the city’s layered identity, and their place as engaged visitors within it.
