Mrs. April Valdez
Moderate Needs Teacher
Hello Wrangler families! My name is April Valdez, one of the Moderate Needs Teachers joining the Wrangler family this year. I have been with the district for 9 years as a Moderate Needs Teacher supporting students in a variety of areas, and with a variety of needs.
I am originally from northern New Mexico. I completed my undergraduate degree at Western New Mexico University with a BS in Special Education. After graduation I married my college sweetheart and we moved to Colorado. I worked in Denver Public Schools for 11 years, and while working there completed my Master's Degree in Special Education from Grand Canyon University.
I have a strong belief in providing support for all students, and believing that ALL students can succeed in school. We all have different learning styles and I enjoy helping student figure out what works best for them. I also believe that different students needs different supports in school and life, and I am an advocate for the students I work with, as well as their families.
During my free time I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I have a 17 year old son who is a senior in High School, and who enjoys keeping us busy. We enjoy traveling and exploring Colorado, skiing, spending time with friends, and just hanging out. I also enjoy reading, photography and baking.
I look forward to getting to know the students at Sage Canyon and partnering with you to support our students. I am always open to meeting with you as communication is key to student success. Here's to a great school year at Sage Canyon!

Dear Families,
During this uncertain time our team wants to support you and your students in any way we can. We are available online through email during the school day, and can be available through Google Hangouts/Meet for a more "in person" chat. The whole sped team will be adding additional resources to our pages to help you and our students work on skills, help support social-emotional needs, and provide some extra fun activities for those days when you start to hear, "I'm bored!". Trust me, I'm right there with you with my son! I am an art lover at heart and some of the world's best galleries and museums are offering free virtual field trips. Other places, such as zoos and aquariums, have webcams set up so families can visit exhibits of their favorite animals. Children's author and illustrator, Mo Willems, is doing "Lunch Doodles", showing kids how to to draw, doddle, and write. If your email or FaceBook is anything like mine you're getting blasted with resources and sites. I have put a few below that you can access for free and are favorites of mine. I will work on adding more in the coming days, and if you have any please let me know! Take of yourselves and your families, and enjoy this time with your babies!
