SCHOLARS’ BOWL TEAM COMPETES IN TOURNAMENT AT EAST LAWRENCE

On Saturday, December 4, 2021, the Decatur Middle School Scholars’ Bowl Team participated in a tournament hosted annually by East Lawrence Middle School.
Over 150 Alabama students participated in tournament held at East Lawrence Middle School. Participating schools were Cullman, East Elementary (Cullman), Decatur Middle, Discovery Middle, Haleyville, East Lawrence Elementary, East Lawrence Middle, Moulton Middle, Highlands School, Sacred Heart.

SCHOLARS’ BOWL TEAM HOSTS INVITATIONAL

On Saturday, November 20, 2021, the Decatur Middle School Scholars’ Bowl Team hosted its open invitational. The invitational, traditionally held annually on the 3rd Saturday in November, has been on hiatus for the last couple of seasons due to team transitions and, more recently, the pandemic. Hosting a tournament is the team’s only fundraiser for the season. Due to the program’s growth and with many requests from various schools and coaches across Alabama, the team, along with their coaches, began making preparations last year. In August, students on Decatur Middle School’s team were thrilled to publicly announce the tournament’s return.
Over 150 Alabama students representing thirteen schools across Alabama participated in the thirty-team tournament held on the Decatur Middle campus. Participating schools were Arab Jr. High, Austin Middle, Austin Jr. High, Decatur Middle, Discovery Middle, Haleyville, East Lawrence, Hartselle, Moulton Middle, Highlands School, Russellville, Sacred Heart, & Thompson.

Congratulations to our Scholars’ Bowl team who opened their season on Friday, November 5, 2021 at the West Point Invitational at Wallace State Community College. Decatur Middle School was well-represented; leading in total teams participating with one team competing in every pool. Each of the competing teams participated in 5 grueling preliminary rounds. We are SO proud of all of our teams for the sportsmanship and perseverance!

--> May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Students will be focusing on mindfulness and ways to reduce stress.
--> Congratulations to our Competitive Robotics students!! They recently competed in the ACTE technology competition! 14 students placed in the top 3 and 9 of the students will continue to the State Championship! 160 students in the North AL Region participated in the tech fair this year. WAY TO GO RAIDERS!

--> Congratulations to our Scholars' Bowl team!Forty-four teams (statewide) competed in the middle school 5-round tournament on March 12th. Decatur Middle School’s team competed against Monrovia Middle, Discovery Middle, Moulton Middle, and Lindsay Lane. Of the 44 teams competing statewide, Decatur Middle School’s team went 3-1-1 ranking 10th (of 44) which was not enough to qualify them for the state competition. Players competing in the district tournament consisted of 8th graders Dane Ard, Joey Boy, Mollye Hellebrand, Claire Stewart, and Matthew Sutton. 7th grade players were Amelia Peek and Harris Penley.
