Each April, the nation observes Second Chance Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges individuals face when reentering society after incarceration and promoting solutions that support successful reintegration.

Millions of individuals return from incarceration each year, often encountering barriers to stability, including limited access to employment, housing, and critical support services. These challenges affect not only individuals but also families, communities, and public safety. Without essential resources, the risk of recidivism increases, making reentry a key public safety issue.

Second Chance Month provides an opportunity for education, advocacy, and action, uniting government agencies, businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations to expand reentry support. Through resource fairs, awareness campaigns, and community partnerships, this initiative highlights the importance of second chances in building safer, stronger communities.

DCS plays a critical role in these efforts, connecting individuals under supervision with the tools and opportunities needed to rebuild their lives. By working alongside local partners, DCS helps returning citizens navigate reentry challenges and secure pathways to long-term success.
